6 yr old girl with tachycardia at night

One night my 6 year old told me "my heart is going really fast" and said this had happened a few other times at night, while lying still in bed.  Today she told me this in the morning (she was still in bed) and when I put my ear to her chest it sounded like her heart would beat out of her chest.  It was beating very fast (over 160bpm) but slowed down within a minute of me listening to it.  She said she it felt funny in her throat and her stomach too.

I would have her seen by a pediatric cardiologist. It is important for that doctor to know if this fast heartbeat started and stopped on a dime or if it truely SLOWED down over the course of a minute like you said. Make sure and tell the doctor this.

update- we found out today she has wolff-parkinson-white syndrome.

I'm glad to see that you got your diagnoses this quickly! Did you understand exactly what is happening to your daughter? Will they do an abation on her?

They are referring us to a pediatric cardiologist.  As I understand it they assess to see how frequent/long lasting the episodes are and try medications if needed before trying ablation.  Her pediatrician told me she could play soccer but I would feel better having the cardiologist seeing her first.
