Blue Feet

My daughter, who is 5 months old, was born a healthy 7lbs 13 oz on October 6,2008. When she was born we noticed her nose what extremely white and her feet were purple. I thought it would go away after a couple of days, but it didn't. As she got older her hands and feet stayed EXTREMELY cold and a purplish almost black color. The only time her hands and feet get warm is when she is in a very warm bathtub, and then they turn a bright pink/red color. After about 30 minutes her feet go back to being the purplish almost black color. I've brought it up to her pediatrician and they did an ecco on her and it came back normal. The pediatrician said that she would grow out of it- Not the answer I was looking for. Someone said it could be raenauds phenomenon. Could you tell me what she has so I can get the right treatment for my baby?

Trust in your pediatricain, he has probably seen this more times than he can count in his practice. Whoever mentioned Raynuards was way off the wall. Raynuards is a constricting of blood vessels and it comes and goes, mainly in cold weather. It does not 'stay' all day long as you have described. It is also extremely painful and anyone who has this problem knows what I mean. If you had an echo done and all was well, try and accept that, knowing that any of the heart problems that a baby could have that caused the blue discoloration, would have EASILY shown up on the echo.

There is no way I am trusting any professional who just says "she will grow out of it" for an answer.  That is not the answer I was looking for. The blue feet my daughter has is not in any way normal. In 70 degree weather her feet are still purplish/black and freezing cold. Even nurses that are in the family have told me to get a second opinion and to take my baby to the ER.

I am not saying that your daughter doesn't have some kind of a problem. If there are nurses in your family, perhaps they can help you figure out who to see for your daughter??? All I am trying to tell you is something everyone who has a child with heart disease on these forums, would tell you: if the blue discoloration was caused by heart disease, the form of heart disease that causes that type of problem, would easily show up on an echo.  You said your daughter's echo was normal.
