Chest pain/discomfort in 12 yr old female

by wolfefamily, Mar 17, 2009 10:04PM
My daugther has been experiencing chest pains for the last year.  It causes great pain, especially when breathing.  The episodes can last up to 8 minutes, and the frequency is about 1-2 times per week. Initially thought to have Precordial Catch Syndrome.  She had an EKG, normal findings.  She had a chest xray that showed her heart is small, but long.  Her diaphragm looked abnormal in the xray, it extended up.  We do have a family history of heart disease and SLE.

If you are asking if this could be heart related chest pain, I would tell you the chances of that are basically nil, not only because of what you descibe but because children who suffer from true heart related chest pain have severe forms of heart disease which you would never see a 'normal' EKG on. Have you taken her to a Pulmonologist?
