Help

by mele2009, Oct 05, 2009 07:24AM
My 10 year old son was diagnosed with inappropriate sinus tachycardia.  It began early this year and progressively got worse.  It began during the day mostly, then started happening around 10:30 every night.  He's worn two types of monitors, which showed he was within normal range as a child (doctor said 200 and under normal for kids).  He was placed on 25 mg Atenolol, then the dosage was recently increased to a pill and a half (about 40).  It seems to help, but I am concerned about side effects, and whether there are any other alternatives rather than the surgical procedures I have heard about.  Anything we can do to help prevent this?  Our doctor thinks these symptoms will eventually go away and maybe have to do with beginning puberty.  Any comments?  Thank you.

I have a stupid question, if he is with in normal range, why do they call it inappropriate sinus tachycardia. my son's heart rate has been over 200 at times and once was over 231. they say most of it is ST once it was Fast ventricular tachy.
also if it is normal then why is he on medications.I am just curious. I was told the same thing about how high the HR can go or how low it can go as long as  they aren't symptomatic.
just wondering please don't think I am being nasty when I am asking because I am truly just wondering.
