'marginal candidate'

can anyone explain what it means if an adolescent child is said to be a 'marginal candidate' for complex congenital heart surgery

I would ask your cardiologist this question. If I had to guess I would say that the child has hit a point where the surgery could be a yes, have the surgery done at this point or maybe we could wait a bit longer. Sort of like being on the borderline.

Here's another way of looking at it. The surgeon want the child to reach a weight of 75lbs. The child is now 73lbs.......do you do the surgery or wait???
