Mastitis
Can hormones cause mastitis and ovarian cysts in teenage girls?  I know mastitis is usually heard of in breast feeding mothers.  What about girls who are not pregnant or not breastfeeding?  My daughter had mastitis a few months ago and her doctor said it was an infection caused from an ill fitting bra,  and from wearing it at night while she slept.  Then we found out a few weeks ago she has a cyst on her right ovary....are these two things related?

I have not heard of mastitis in a nonnursing peripubertal child. That may indeed have been an infection but if it recurs I recommend that she be checked by a pediatric surgeon.
The cysts on her ovary may be isolated or premature ovulation or other, if the cyst is large it needs monitoring especially if it is causing symptoms.
Work with her doctor closely. Be sure that her overall health is good and that the thyroid, pubertal issues are addressed.
