Puberty effect on Bone Age

by Mark202, Jan 02, 2009 07:55PM
I previously posted a question asking about my son and his advanced bone age and the possible side affect from taking Accutane when he was 14 years old. After reading from the archives I learned that early onset of puberty can
cause a change in ones bone age. I guess it could be a coincidence that the age advancement occurred because of
him going through a puberty stage at the same time he was taking Accutane. Is this plausible ? The advanced bone age was from Puberty and not a side affect from Accutane. Another issue was his lack of growth and the continue closing of his epiphyseal plates. Can Accutane affect or reduce the amount of Gh the pituitary gland puts out during
consumption ? It seemed like it took almost 1 year after treatment before he had any height growth. Blood work was taken 9 months after treatment and his growth hormone level on a scale of 0 to 6 was a .2 or 2 tenths. His wrist bone age is 16.5 years old and I would like to know what if any advice can be given to allow my son to reach his full potential height.
His bone age reading with his height before he started accutane was a projected final height of 72 to 73 inches. His current height now is 70.5 inches. Is it possible at his current height of 70.5 inches and bone age of 16.5 years that he could reach his original diagnosed height naturally or will it take an endocrinologist help if possible ?
