Congential Acyanotic Heart Disease for 13 Months girl

Hi,

    First of all thanks and a lot for all the experts spending their valuable time in answering the questions and providing valuable suggestions.

    My brothers daughter is now 13 months old and he is diagnised with congential Acyanotic Heart Disease from birth itself. She is very week and has low weight. One of the expert told she needs to gain weight for anything to be done and so gave some medicine. At times it becomes very difficult to give feeding. She omits when given milk etc. Below is the discharge summary report after her birth.

Cong. Acyanotic Heart disease OS. secasd, LT to RT SHUNT, < 2:1, VALVULAR PS; RV TO PA PEAK SYST. PRESSURE 40MM Hg.
Good LV, RV function.
19 days female born to Consanglues Couple.

Can anyone please advice if her problem can be cured with medicine or will she require a surgery. And can anyone please suggest any better hospital/doctor for treatment in Hyderabad.

Dear Raja Sekhar,

Without evaluating her, I cannot say what is happening with her at this point.  She is now essentially one year older than the discharge evaluation that you post, so I would say that she definitely requires another evaluation of her heart, at minimum, although she may need much more than that.  Her iniital evaluation demonstrated an atrial septal defect, or a hole between the upper two chambers of the heart, and valvar pulmonary stenosis.  These alone should not have caused a problem if nothing has changed.  However, pulmonary stenosis can certainly worsen over time.  As well, if these are consanguineous parents, other genetic disorders may be present that is causing a problem.  Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the care in India, so cannot recommend a provider.  At minimum, you need a pediatric cardiologist to see her.
