My 2 Year old son has had episodes that look like seizures but all tests have proved its not SEIZURES!! No doctor can find out what it is... he is completely normal other than the episodes that come frequently... he has a vein in his neck that bulges and when hes in a epsode you can see his pulse i am very concerned and need some kind of answers... the last time he had a episode i put sugar in his mouth and he snapped out of the episode within seconds and was back to normal. which normally it takes hours. Hes had eegs mris ct scans labs everything and its all normal. i need help figuring this out... anything would help. he takes daily vitamins and its been helping..

Dear Amanda,

Without evaluating your son, it is difficult to know what is going on here.  There are various things that this could be from a cardiac standpoint, including breath-holding spells and arrhythmias, although arrhythmias may be less likely if he breaks out of these episodes with sugar in his mouth.  It would be reasonable to have him seen by a cardiologist to try to get more history and an examination.  I would caution you about putting anything in his mouth during an episode, as he could potentially aspirate and choke on it, which would make things much worse.

YOu spoke about putting sugar in his mouth and he came out of it.Has he been tested for Hypoglycemia. You should ask your dr to check his glucose levels and maybe A1C test and a fasting blood sugar level test too. Those are a few things that could help you.
