What problems can be caused by a heart defect...of an enlarged pulmonary artery in a 26 wk gestation of a fetus??

Dear Cathleen,

There are many cardiac defects associated with pulmonary arterial enlargement in utero.  This includes absent pulmonary valve syndrome (either with or without tetralogy of Fallot), truncus arteriosus, and coarctation of the aorta, to name a few.  I recommend that you have an evaluation by a pediatric cardiologist who specializes in fetal cardiology.  You can get a fetal echocardiogram performed, and get all of the information that you need, including what is going on as well as prognosis and potential need for intervention.
