Fevers will raise the heart rate of anyone, whether child or adult.  Heart rates also vary according to age.  You do not provide the age of your child in your question, therefore I cannot accurately comment.  However, a heart rate of 170 bpm would be high even for a newborn with a high fever.  So under any circumstance, it would be very fast for a child older than that.  I would recommend having your child checked by your primary doctor soon, and review this issue with them directly.
