Dear Bevy,

There are lots of reasons for tachycardia.  The first thing to figure out is whether the tachycardia is a sinus tachycardia (due to the heart just going faster with the natural pacemaker of the heart driving it) or another tachycardia that could be due to an arrhythmia.  The most common reason that we see in adolescents for having sinus tachycardia is relative dehydration.  However, there are many other reasons for this and diagnosis is not possible through this forum.  If you feel that there is a problem, it would be a better idea to ensure that it gets evaluated by the primary care provider, or by a pediatric cardiologist.
