2 and a half month baby has red rash on both cheeks

Hi, this is my first born so everything is new and it is near to impossible to get a doctor for him here in Canada. The rash started as two small penny size areas just under his temples at top of his cheek bones but has spread over last 2-3 weeks so it covers his entire cheeks now. I presume it is itchy as he rubs it not constantly but fairly frequently. When i press it it goes paler or white ( i read somewhere that that was important to know for some reason, i dont know why but i did it anyway) it isnt rasied, there are no spots scabs or scales. In the area where it started there is a tiny amount of flaky skin where it is drier than the rest of the rash. Other than that he seems fine, i get 5 wet diapers every 24 hours, a stool every 2 days. We have had a problem with constipation a couple of weeks ago for a week after we changed his feeding routine for 3 days. We feed him mainly breast but with a couple of bottles of formula at night. We stayed at the in laws after his first shots and he got more formula than usual and i presume got constipated from that. He is slowly getting back to his old yellowy green soft stools. He does get gas. So far the gas drops we have tried do not seem to help. Don't know if any of that is related to his cheeks but i threw it in!  Oh he has started munching on his hands quite a bit and drooling all over them. Too early for teething isnt it? lol Oh the joy of new first time moms.

My son (who is now 3) and my daughter (now 8 months) both got their first teeth at 3 1/2 months old, but my daughter had been teething since two months...she too had red cheeks like you decribed...i took her to my family doctor and he was able to rule out anything serious and sure enough she cut her first tooth right after, and another two weeks later.

You should bring him in just to rule out any possibilties...if the skin is starting to get dry and patchy where the rash begam it could also be baby eczema...my nephew has that and it looks very similar to a teething rash but it's also itchy...

Aveeno has a lotion for hands and face for baby's that specifically for the dryness and itchiness of eczema, maybe try that to relieve the itching until you see a doctor...

Hope this has been of some help

It could be fifths disease. My daughter had that and all I could see was the rash. Or the rash could be a sign of allergies or other things. You should probably see the pediatrician.
