# 1   i have a daugther who will be 3 in november and she says some words but her vocabaulary isnt very big at all. the doctor says not to worry about it and her hearing is fine. she puts 2-3 words together but never says a lot. she is smart. shes more pysical then verbal. if asked to do or get something she does it.........i think she might have a possible speech delay. # 2 she is very hyper and im also concerned about this because adhd runs in both sides of our family. the doctor says its too early to test her. any advice????

If you have any developmental concerns, have you checking into either your Early Intervention Unit (birth to 3) or your school system (3 and up). I have a daughter that was a very late talker made her first sounds at 2. She was working with them from 9 months (didn't sit up on her own). They started teaching her sign language at 9 months. She is very close to being back on track but she qualifies for speech 2 x a week through the school system.

The hyper part what 3 year old is not hyper? I have a 9 year old son that has been diagnosed as being ADHD for over a year now, there are rating scales on the internet that you can print off and see how she would rate. Can she sit and play with a toy for a minute or two? Can she sit still at the table when eating?

Most kids have to be delayed around 30% to qualify for services. The school should be able to test her for no charge.

Seek more help!  You can request an evaluation from an early intervention specialist (they are called different things in different states).  After she is 3, the school system can evaluate her.  Please don't wait as language delays can impact a child for their entire school career and beyond.  With help, the results can be amazing.  If it is nothing, then you will get peace of mind.
Good luck!
