5 week old always sick

Hi.. my 5 week old is a very sicky baby and has been since about 2 weeks old, the thing is when he was born he would take roughly between 3 and 5ozs every 4 hrs and is bottle fed.. but for the last 2ish weeks he is only taking 2ozs every 4hrs and even though he is gaining weight and the HV has reassured me he is ok im still v. worried as a lot of the time he brings most of the 2ozs back up and sometimes through his nose.. he has a very bad cold which doesnt help either as he struggles to breath with the bottle in his mouth and he has been on nasal drops for the last 4 weeks and they arent making the slight bit of difference, but there isnt much else the docotr can do.. i dont understand what could be the problem, he winds perfectly fine aswell.. any help would be appreciated x

Yes he has a sibling who isnt very well at the moment with a cold and chest infection... spoke too HV yesterday and she suspected reflux problems, so took him too the doctor today and he has said it isnt reflux as he doesnt bring up his milk as frequently as a baby with reflux problems would, he told me it is just a nasty cold that will probabily last a few weeks... but he has now told me my LO now has a slight heart murmor, I have no idea what this means but ive been told not too worry. I think i am just going too have too sit this cold out and make him feel as comftorable as possible, and keep putting him in different positions, ie. upright and on his front every now and then.. I am still thinking of getting some baby gaviscon too perhaps help him keep some milk down, but will speak too pharmasist first :)

Hi, My baby is 8 months now but she did get the sniffles when she was a month old.  What we did was keep her in the bathroom when I took a steam shower which helped clear her up.  Also, used the bulbs to clear her nose and made her sleep in her car seat as that kept her head elevated.  Goodluck!! it is so hard tow atch the teenie tiny ones suffer.

oh its so worrying isnt it, I hate it when they get sick, I think that he is still thriving okay from what you say here and the fact the Doctor has reassured you, now he has a cold and that does make them splutter and sniffle, when you feed him take the nipple out frequently so he can breathe ,you can get those bulbs and clear his nose if he is stuffed up , to help him to breathe . If he seems worse or has a fever take him back to the Doctor to have him checked again, time will help you, has he a sibling that he got the cold from ?
