Advanced bone age

My son is 10 years old and has a bone age of a 13 1/2 year old.  I have been seeing a specialist for last 1 1/2 year and after doing all the test on him said that he is not going through early puberty.  When he was seen by the doctor last week they said that he is going through early puberty and we should consider giving him the hormone injection to slow down his growth.  Please tell me what the side effects of this treatment are and if this would be a good idea to put him through this.
