Allergic reaction or Scarlett fever?

My 4 year old daughter was seen in the emergency room today for a temp of 104. she complains of sore throat and head ache. she has periods of lethargy and times of normal activity. She was exposed to strep throat this week. Diagnosis was UTI and ear infection, she was started on keflex. she has had 1 dose this afternoon. She now has a red rash that has a "sunburn like appearance" and is rough to touch, so i am thinking scarlett fever, however the rash is primarily under her panties in the front and her armpits. there is some on her back but it's not nearly as noticable as the other 2 locations. she reports mild itch but it really doesn't seem to bother her. Anyone have any input? Since it is the weekend I'd have to return to the ER to see a doctor. I don't want to withhold the antibiotic if it's related to strep but I don't want to give it if it's a reaction to the med.

I took DD to her pediatician (who also is an allergist). he seemed kinda perplexed (sp) because the rash did not extend to her belly or back. He thinks it is a skin reaction not related to the other symptoms or antibiotic. He said he doubted that an ear infection or uti woulda caused a temp above 104, he said her ear doesn't look bad and her urine culture is negative. He increased her antibiotic and indicated it is likely strep (too late to test since she's been on an antibiotic) but could also be influenza in addition. DD seems much better today, no more fevers. Yes Kelflex is related to penicillin.

My daughter had scarlet fever (she's 6) a few weeks ago. She had the strep bumps in her throat and the rash on her chest so it could be that. She also has a penicillin allergy and the way we found that is when the gave her an antibiotic for pneumonia a few yrs ago she took the meds for about 4-5 days and she broke out in huge bumps and red, itchy on the tops of her legs and abdominal area. Some on the back. I would take her to an allergist to check. Your pediatrician with probably not have a clue. That is, if they are like our dr's here! Keflex is a form of penecillan is it? Good luck , hope she is feeling better!

well most of the rash is gone this am, except for the panty area. i haven't changed any soaps or lotion or anything. her tongue is normal. i gave her the antibiotic this am, so i'll watch her and see if it comes back. I believe her fever is gone :) I plan to take her to her dr tomorrow.

It could also be an allergy , has she worn something unusual that would irritate her underarms and pantie stomach area , or have you used any creams , shower/bath gels on her .
