Bone test Advanced in overseas adopted child

We adopted our son from Russia when he was 17 months old.  He is now almost 9 and has armpit hair.  Our doctor ordered a bone test and it came back advanced.  He is of average height, but he is underweight.  We have an appointment set up with a pediatric endocrinologist but I am wondering what it could mean?

Does he play sports, and if so would he be concerned about being underweight?  All kinds of sports drugs are pretty readily available to kids, though usually not such young ones, but I would bet he could find some if he was concerned enough to try.

I assume you are saying your son has never been ahead of his age in other markers in the past?
