Depot Lupron Related Issues & Side Effects

Dear Dr. Guy,

My 9year old daughter has a bone age of 11years and has all the signs of puberty. We are seeing a pediatric endocrynologist and I am studying whether to get her started on Depot Lupron.

Are there any long-term side effects or issues with Lupron shots? The materials on the web indicate that weight gain and some reactions are possible. Do these issues go away when we discontinue the shot?

Is the shot more painful than vaccine shots? Do children typically cope with the pain okay  or do they need sometime recover to the point that they may miss school? Do I have to take time off from work around each shot?

Thanks.
