Ear infection

Hello,
I suspect an ear infection and looking for some advice.
I have two children 7 & 3. The 3 year old has had a temp for over a week. The fever started around 102 for a couple of days. We gave Motrin to keep the fever under control. Now he constantly has a temp of 100 for about 3 to 4 days not given Motrin.(taken from the ear) During this time, his ears are full of junk. Sometime his ears oozed so much ear wax it stuck to his hair, both ears. The ear wax was yellow in color. He has not complained that his ears are in pain, but they are sensitive when cleaned.

I think ear infection because no one else in the family is sick. I don’t think ear infection because both ears were affected without pain. We do not have health insurance, so the Dr. is reserved for critical care. He does not have a history of ear infections.

My questions
Am I looking at the common cold, or ear infection?
If possible ear infection what are some valid options.
