Eyes Roll Back & Unequal Pupils

I have recently noticed that my 20 month old daughter has little "spells" where her eyes roll back and slightly to the right. She gets a very blank look on her face and it only lasts a second or two. I'm concerned for 2 different reasons. First, she was born with different size pupils which is only noticeable when they are both dilated. The right pupil is larger. She has seen a pediatric opthamologist but never a neurologist. The opthamologist said her eyes are fine. My second concern is that my niece is severly autistic and her mom said that this sort of eye rolling was one of her first symptoms.

My daughter is not delayed in any way, possibly even advanced. I'm just concerned that there is some sort of underlying brain problem. Any insight would be appreciated.

Hello

My 18 month old daughter was also born with unequal pupils and has had this investigated by our paediatric opthamologist and we have also been told her vision and eyes are fine. 10 days ago I noticed that she did what seemed like a prolonged blink with fluttering eyelids and her eyes rolling a little. It lasted a couple of seconds but she has done it several times since with increasing frequency, mainly when she is tired. At first I thought it was a new 'expression' but am incredibly worried. We're taking her to our GP tomorrow but as your original post was in April last year I wondered if you had any feedback or advice you could offer.

I hope your little girl is well, I've read a lot online which suggests this is a fairly common thing which kids grow out of...

Hello there,
I would take her to the pediatrician and describe the eye rolling. You are concerned enough to be posting here and it's hard to live with that kind of anxiety about your little one. They may not be concerned and can put your mind at rest. I dont want to alarm or scare you but I would ask them about if it could be a seizure. There are many kinds including absence seizures, which can be short and include a blank stare. But please know that lots of little odd behaviours like this can be just a tic or a passing thing that is nothing serious. It is still best to get anything that seems unusual checked out, and follow your mom/dad instinct. Try and catch it on video (difficult I know!) and tell the doctor exactly what happens each time, and keep a journal of when, where, and whats going on around her when it happens, and how many seconds it lasts. This will help the dr identify whats going on. All the best.
