Giant Hairy Nevus

my 18 months old son has a hairy nevus on his left thigh. When he was 8 months old , size of nevous was very small (around 3-4 cm dia) , but now it spread over his thigh (all around) and continuously growing in size.

there are small hairs with skin slightly rough and dark. I've seen a dermetologist who suggested laser treatment , but i'm afraid at this age (he is only 18) i should go for it or not . My padeatrician suggested , if i want to get it removed , i should go for a cosmetic surgery. My kid is too young for all this , but on interent i've seen the articles suggesting it should be removed as early as possible

What should i do ? Please suggest

Doctors seem to vary in their opinion regarding surgery there seems to be a consensus that 2 year old may be the best age ,personally I would have my my child evaluated by a surgeon who would perform the surgery.I know Laser works well with some , and particularly birth marks like port wine stains, we have a cosmetic surgery forum on MH not certain if there would be some information there  good luck .
