High blood platelet count

by medguy500, Oct 15, 2007 11:00PM
Dear doctors:

My 8 month old baby boy has been testing high platelet counts in 3 tests within the last 1 month: 800,000 then 600,000 and now 700,000.  the doctor is referring our child to a haematologist. We are worried..he seems otherwise health..He was born as a big baby...and now is bigger than normal baby (over the 100th percentile). Does weight have anything to do with this? His other blood counts are good. He was a little low on iron (not too low, but marginal) during the second blood test, but now his level is good in the latest test after iron supplementation in the last two weeks, but platelet count has still gone up from 600,000 to 700,000.  We would very much appreciate your thoughts and advice. Thanks.
