High fever

I am a mother of a 2 year old son.  My son has been pretty healthy beside numerous ear infections his for year.  I had tubes put in his ears this past march.  Well this past december my son first got pink eye which is normal I know.  Then the following friday he got a ear infection in his left ear.  His ENT dr gave him some drops but we ended up in the ER due to the pain so he was put on Amoxicillian (sp).  Then 4 days later he got a Upper respitory infection so they switched his antibotic (antibiotic) to azcertmician (sp).  Then 4 days later he had a cough so bad he couldn't even sleep and then discovered he had a ear infection in the other ear.  So they put him on Augmentin (sp) and predisone.  That seemed to do the trick.  Well he was well for about 7 days and he became very sleepy and then woke up from a nap with a 102.5 fever.  I took him back to the ER and they ran some blood test and his WBC is 20K.  They gave him a shot of rocephin.  Later that night his fever spiked up to 105.5.  He has had two more rounds of rocephin and I alternate the tynelol and motrin ever 4 hours to keep the fever down.  They say now it could just be a virus, but I am not 100% sure about that.  I have noticed my son having trouble swallowing even his meds now and has burps more then he does. What should my next step be?  I am truly worried.  Should I take him to a specialist?
