Infant choking

Hi. My baby is 4 weeks old and has chocking issues while bottle feeding or when just laying on her back in her crib. I am brestfeeding too, but when supplementing, through the end of the bottle, she becomes sleepy and I think she forgets to swallow, resulting in chocking. Sometimes when she is on her back in her crib, she just chocked with her own saliva. What can I do to help her? And most importantly, what is the best position to hold her in those few seconds when she chokes?? Thank you very much.

When you say choking, is she spitting up at all?  And is there any color change?  Babies will often cough and spit up when eating, especially when going to fast.  If you are bottle feeding, it's important to make sure you are using a slow flow nipple at this age.  If it's due to spitting up, there is the possibility of acid reflux.

Google Infant Choking to see how to properly take care of a choking baby.  The best position to put her in during this time is on her tummy, across your lap.  It's always a good idea for all parents to learn Infant and Child Hymliche manouver and Infant/Child CPR.

Honestly though, I think you should consult your Dr. for medical advice.  Best of luck.
