Infants with fever

Infants with fever

My son  is 14 weeks and has developed a nasty cough and stuffy nose, I thought it was just a cold, but I have not caught it and he has not been in close contact with anyone who is or was sick recently. He felt warm and was fussing like he was in pain gave a little infants tylenol. Checked his temp rectally an hour later and his temp was 100.1. The tylenol should of kicked in by now. How often should I check his temp to see if its going down or up?

Rectal temperature is always higher than oral. Normal rectal temp in infants is between 98 and 101 F. If it goes any higher than 101, I would administer tylenol. If the fever doesn't go below 101 within an hour, I would contact the pediatrician.
