Involuntary Movement in 10 year old boy.

For the last 2-3 years my 10 year old son has been expiriencing involintary movments that range from hand motions to facial motions that often repeat for awhile, weeks, and then vanish only to be replaced by other movments. Some movments are a combination of shoulder rolls and facial changes. They are not debilitating yet but are very noticable.  His pediatrician told us that children often have these issues and they simply go away. His seem to be getting much worse, occur in waves, and he is unable to control them. We have tried to subtly get him to control them not wanting to make an issue out of them and he simply can not. He is very athletic and when he is very focused on something like hittling a baseball, they tend to occur less. Any thoughts? Help!

hi, if they can be controlled by concentrating on other items they may be something like tick, but not exactly. tick is regular. but if there is no control on them I think it is better to  refer to a neurologist specially if they are getting worsed.
