My nephew painted a picture of a bloody world

My nephew was painting, and I asked him what the picture was.  He proceeded to tell me that is was a picture of a bloody world and all the people are dead.  I asked him why they were dead and he said because someone shot them.  He then painted a big rainbow looking thing that he said was used to shoot the earth.  Is this something to be concerned about?  Is he watching too much tv, or does he need a counseling?

Hi Stephh85, children see & here toooo much today, how old is your nephew?  Has he ever painted anything like this before?  Sometimes children paint how they feel, things remembered from a dream, things overheard from the news, or possibly a preminition.  He may never paint anything like that again, I would see if & when he is painting these pic's, how do his other painting reflect, are they all scary, funny,dark, light, people, places, ask him to paint a self portrait, see how he perceives himself.  Best of luck, Art teacher from Canton, yesterday in class many of the boys 3rd grader's, spoke of death, blood, plane's crashing, and 911, not the topic of the lesson, they have never done that before.  Children see a world very different they what we saw as children.  None of the girl's seemed phased by what the boys had to say.  Sad.
