Potty Training

by carrascokar, Aug 11, 2008 05:39PM
Hi, My daugther is going to be 3years old this month. I have two jobs and only done potty training on the weekends, when my daugther is with me she always tells me that she needs to poop in the potty but most of the time she wont tell the babysitter and she would just do it on her pull-ups, I know that eventually she would manage to tell everybody when she needs to poop. My major concern is that she was born with spina bifida, the Doctors first told me that she was not going to have control of her movements, or walk or talk, and she is walking, runing, she knows her abc's and does things that every kid at her age does, well now the doctors told me that she was not going to have control of her bladder and that I need to do catheterization every 4 fours,  I haven't started catherization because I want to believe that she would be able to overcome this new problem. we have been having problems with the pee part of potty training sometimes she would hold it and run to the potty and sometimes she would just do it on her pull ups. I'm concerning becuase she only pees a small amount and then need to pee another small amount in less than 10min. is this normal, what do you suggest. I need a second opinion. Thank you. and sorry for the long story

I'm afraid you've posted in the Dogs Community by mistake, but welcome anyway!  :-)  There is a Med Help forum that might be better suited to answer your question.  It's called "Children - Special Needs".  I hope you get some answers.

weird. the thread was started in the pediatrics community. that's where i clicked on it to read it. but it takes the message to the dogs community. must be a glitch.

to the poster- my only advice would be to wait a while before deciding to cathetorize. some children do not potty train before 4 years old and yours isn't even 3 yet. it may be premature to say she can't control her bladder, especially since she has defied all other grim predictions made about her so far.
