Sever Sleep Apnea

Sever Sleep Apnea

My son is 5 years old and has severe obstructive sleep apnea.  We have taken him several ENT's and had his adenoids (adenoids) and tonsils removed.  With no luck, the snoring and gasping for air continued.  No doctor seems to know what is causing the obstruction.  We even did an scope of the throat and it looks fine.  Could it be that he has GERD and we just don' know it.  I have not taken him to a gasteronterologist yet but should we check to make sure that GERD can cause this sleep apnea?  I am puzzled and also scared that this will only get worse.  There has has to be something obstructing his airway during sleep.  He now has a CPAP machine and it's not easy for a 5 year old to wear the mask all night.  He's absolutely fine during the day and at night as soon as he relaxes and dozes off to sleep, the snoring and gasping starts.

It is possible. Gastroesophageal reflux and sleep problems are related. During the day, standing up, gravity fixes the problem, but when a person is relaxed the acid can pool causes problems for breathing.
