Son Not Peeing

I have an 18 month old son that has been having trouble for the past 3 days with peeing. The 1st day was just a wait and see. I had called the doc. and they told me watch him and call us back tom. Well the next day I took him to daycare as I have to work. They called me at 12:00 and told me he had a small pee, but that was it. I called the doc. and they told me to bring him in. I took him in and they checked him over and said well he appears fine that he is eating, drinking and playing with no temp. So they sent us down to get a scan of his bladder. The scan showed 17 grams of urine. They decided to do a cathider (? on spelling). The gentleman that done this told me he only needed 5 grams, but was taking 15 grams just to help empty out the older urine. It was so scary and all I did was cry as my son laid there getting this done. After it was done the gentlman that preformed it said well he does have some crystals in his urine and he even showed me. He told me it's uncommon for boys to get UTI, but it is possible or he might have something wrong with his kidneys. Well that is not what a mother wants to here. I had to go home that night worrying and scared to death that something horrible was wrong. So I put him in the tub and put my hand down to see if I could feel him peeing and all I felt was a very short/fast squirt. I took him to daycare today as I have to work and called the doc. for the results she told me everything came back fine. I ask her then why is my son not peeing and when he does it's very small amounts and she said to call back at noon. So I waited and called the daycare at 11:00 to see how he was doing. They told me he had peed once, but it was a pretty heavy diaper (I was so happy he peed so much as he had not peed since 7:00 last night) So I call the doc. and tell them. They said that is great then he isn't having trouble peeing. They told me to keep an eye on him and if he has any other symptoms or regresses to not peeing to call. I just don't understand how this does not worry them. Maybe it's because I am his mother, but I don't understand how just one pee (the one he did at daycare) could be ok within such a long period. Is that normal. I am so used to changing his diaper 7 times a day (so is daycare) that one pee seems to me like something is wrong even if the test came back fine. So I called the daycare back at 3:00 to see how he is doing and they say well he still has not peed since the last time. So now what am I suppose to do. They say he is eating, playing and drinking, doesn't have a temp. that he doesn't act sick. Is this normal. I am just really looking for some answers. One other thing which was 6 weeks ago is that he had a really bad yeast infection. I treated it with cream that the doc. gave me and it went away except still to this day on his bottom is this red patch. If he is in the bath tub, crying or upset it gets really red, then goes back to just noticeable enough. Could this be anything to do with it. Any suggestions or thoughts would be so great. Thanks
