That is directly from the Pediatrician as well as the literature handed out at the hospital when you take your infant home. The nurses also mentioned it when teaching us how to properly bathe him. No tugging on foreskin.
My son is not circumcised. They do not recommend attempting to retract the foreskin for cleaning until the age of 3. Prior to that it's not necessary and can cause discomfort. You do not try to clean under the foreskin of an uncircumcised infant.
Grannie is definitely right. They are checking to make sure there is no infections since uncircumcised can get infected very easily if not pullled back and cleaned properly. Of course, as she said, if anything makes you uncomfortable then you do it. They need to check but if anything else gives you a red flag, get him to another dr just for safety sake!
you should not be worried..i have three boys...you have to pull it back to make sure its clean...dont you pull it back when you give him a bath? a boy foreskin is like creses on a womans private.. you have to check it and keep it clean..but carfully if you decide to go back to the doctors when he is ready to do that part of the exam tell him you feel more comfortable if you do it..
I'd ask the dr why he does it. He may be checking for infection.
I would ask the pedi not to. If he or she just pulls up on it gently, that's one thing, but it should not be forcibly pulled back. I don't think it goes back when someone is an infant.
