Wound dressing

This may seem a silly question, but a few weeks ago my son suffered a deep scrape on his toe at a birthday party after another child engaged in horseplay at the pool.  Another mother there had antiseptic wipes and ointment in her purse and rushed to my son's aid as I tried to stop the bleeding.  She immediately wiped the scrape with the towlette and proceeded to put ointment on it by rubbing the area lightly with her finger covered in ointment.  Since my son had suffered an open wound, do I need to worry about any disease or microorganisms infecting my child from this woman's touching him--although lightly?  I guess I am a little paranoid...

Is the area red and swollen and feverish,  or has it healed?
