billirubin count

my daughter is 3 years old and has an elevated billirubin count. When she got blood work done everything come back normal except that she is anemic and that her billirubin count is 3.8. This is not the first time that she has had an elevated billirubin count. When she was born, like most newborns, they are jaundice. I got that taken care of. Then when she was 2 she had to go see a specialist. She seen him for 3 months and got blood work done twice a month and everything come back normal except that her bilirubin count was high. She was acting normal so the doctor said she didnt have to come back unless her activity level had changed. What could make her bilirubin count go up?
