neurocardiogenic syncope?

by momoftwo74, Nov 02, 2009 11:36AM
Hi. I have a 9 year old son who had a fainting spell at school about 2 months ago. He had normal blood tests at the ER. His pediatrician referred us to a cardiologist to rule out a heart issue. After an exam and a couple EKGs the cardiologist said that my son's heart was fine, and doagnosed him with Neurocardiogenic syncope/Autonomic dysfunction and said that it was a benign and usually self-limiting condition. (meaning it will resolve on its own). We increased my son's fluid and salt intake. After a few more near fainting spells at school ,the cardiologist prescribed pseudophedrine. Since it didnt' seem to help, we stopped that. My son is still having nausea, and dizziness several times a day, and some fatigue related to those symptoms. He will go a couple of days where the symptoms are mild to almost non-existant and then he will have 6-7 days where he has to sit down/lie down about every 1-2 hours or so. His pediatrician sent us to a Neurologist to rule out anything there. MRI and EEG are normal.Yesterday, my son didnt want to go out with his friends at all which is unusual for him. He is normally a very active boy. When I passed by his room, he was lying on the bed crying. He said that he is tired of not feeling good. 3 months ago my son was a normal, happy go lucky, healthy 9 year old. I am so frustrated to see this happening to him and being told that this will resolve on its own. I have asked the doctors if there could be anything else going on, such as a metabolic problem and both the Neurologist and the Cardiologist rejected that idea. If anyone here has a child with a similar problem or if a doctor here has any insight it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
