thyroid in boys age 5

by carolynnn, Apr 08, 2009 04:45PM
my son had an elevated TSH (7.4) but normal t3 and t4 and the thyroid antibodies test normal

women in my family, myself included have hypothyroid issues.

we originally got him tested b/c constipation issues

dr. said b/c his growth is normal, don't want to give him med's that he'll be on if he doesn't have to...they'll re-test in 3mths...i'm glad for this yet worried.   Should I be more forceful in treatment or testing...???
he is 5 and will be 6 next month.

your doctor sounds right.  You don't want to treat your son with medicine unless he absolutely needs it.  I would be sure to that his thyroid testing is checked on a regular basis, and to follow up on the constipation.  Maybe something else is causing the constipation?
