Divici vs Laproscopric Surgery

Hi ,
I am 74 yr old and had Cyctocyle repair 6 yr ago.  Since that time I developed a rectocycle, and had a consult with a Urgynocologist in 2012.  He said I needed a Sacral Colpoprexy, and possible Rectopxy. He sent me to a Colorectal surgeon for a consult. I was scheduled for several test order by the Colorectal surgeon.  When I called the Urgyno with questions, I got a call back from his Nurse, very pleasant, and she assured me that the Dr. was the best.  That's not what I wanted to know and I continued to ask for his cal back.  In the mean time, I called the Colorectal surgeon.  He called me back at 8:30p.m..  He gave me reasons for tests that he had ordered.  I had still not heard back from the Urgyno surgeon.  He was going to use Mesh, and that was one of my concerns.  I decided to cancel the surgery.  When he finally called back, I told him that when I called him with questions, that he would call me, and not pass it off to his Nurse.  I am a retired Nurse Practitioner, and he was surprised that I was not satisfied with his Nurse Practitioner calling to answer questions.  I have an appointment next week with another Urgyno, I have lots of questions.  I'll let you know what he suggests, and If he works with a Colorectal surgeon.

I am glad you decided to cancel your surgery until all your questions have been answered completely. I have had two uro/gyns...one I love but she is out of state and so I have a local one as well and I always see the PA...which I fin most frustrating...

I really just wanted to let you know though...I had sacrocolpopexy as well as rectal prolapse repair (rectopexy) both were done with mesh by a uro/gyn and I am almost 2 years out and very happy with the repairs...they are holding well and gave me back my life...so I just wanted to share this with you so you could know there are MANY positive mesh stories out there!;)

Good luck and do let us know how your journey is going...
Do keep asking questions...I went through 5 uro/gyn's, 3 rectal/colon surgeons as well as chatted with my gp and gastro before making my final decision and then chatted with my surgeon via email (because she was out of state) for just over a year...it is your body and you care more about it then anyone (even a dr.) ever could because you live in it...so we have to be our own best advocate!

Good for you, that you have decided to find out as much as possible about any operation and tests you are to have.
I see that so far you are told you need a suspension of the top of your vagina.  In the USA some Urogynes would be able to do all prolapse ops including possibly your rectoplexy, however, I am sure you will make the best decision as to what you choose to do.

Please let us know how you get on
