pessary quistion...

I seen my GYN last week about this, and she inserted a pessary.but it came out the next day???
She said if this happens, not to bother putting it back in,until i see her again next Tuesday...
I too had a hysterectomy years ago,and i have no cervix,so was that the cause of the prolapse?
This is all new to me,but i do want to avoid surgery if i can...
I am a newby here..thanks
Bren

I'm glad things are moving forward for you! POP is actually very common (3 million women in US alone, millions more in other countries), and young women do have it too. Vaginal childbirth is the leading cause; I've spoken with women as young as early 20s with POP. Menopause is cause number 2 (many more causes) so many women experience problems in menopause.

I seen my GYN today, and this time i had an ultra sound of my vagina area, and was fitted  for another pessary, but i did ask about the surgery, and she does hers vaginaly, and my overies are clear,no obstruvtions of any kind,,
So they are going to call me next week,as soon as they get another size in for me...i do hope this works,as i am not wanting this surgery, but i am finding out this is common in women at any age,but mainly older women...

Not a silly question at all! A tampon actually will help, it is just not a good idea to use a tampon every day-that toxic shock concern. Will do in a  pinch though!

Please see a specialist, either a urogynecocologist or a urologist that specializes in pelvic floor.

Thank you SherrieP..
I will do just that...on another note..if i do have this surgery,,,should i let her,a GYN,or should i have her refer me to a Urologist?

Please seek counsel with a urogynecologist; unless the urologist was fellowship trained in pelvic floor specialty, there is a chance the sling was not attached properly. These are extremely intricate procedures and should be done by a specialist-unfortunately many women don't know that and allow other drs to do them. I'm hopeful a  trip to the right dr may give you some relief, pain down the leg is a common symptom of attachment complication.

As far as the rude, obnoxious comment by dr, unacceptable. I'm glad you no longer see that practitioner.

Please write down all your questions on a piece of paper and let her see it so she knows you  have questions-hopefully she'll take the time you deserve to get the answers you need!

I had the Monarc sling done in 2006 and its been an absolute nightmare since. I have never had children, but had my left ovary removed due to a cyst in 2000 and that's when the problems started. It took 6 years to get my GP to send me to a Urologist and have the problem dealt with and he advised me that a sling was what was being done. It was done on the right side of my vagina. For the first 2 weeks there was no lifting or straining on my part and everything seemed fine. When that recovery period was over, so was the honeymoon. I immediately started to have problems. Not only did the laughing, coughing, sneezing leaking return, but I had a hard time just making it down the hall to the bathroom. Then there was the pain down my right leg. As far down as the top of my knee and some days it was excruciating. I had to stop wearing underwear that had elastic around the legs as the scare tissue at the top of my leg where they made the one incision sits in the exact spot the elastic from underwear sits and when it rubs on the scar, the tissue swells and that causes the incision inside my vagina to swell and irritates the whole system. I returned to my GP several times and complained about this and all he said to me was "you probably have herpes, that's why your vagina is swelling inside". OMFG! I was absolutely devastated to hear that. He didn't do any tests to confirm this, but insisted that this was the problem. My partner and I educated ourselves and practiced safe sex and then the real problems began. Every time we had sex, my insides would swell up so bad and the pain would be so bad, I would have to ask him to stop. The pain would run down my leg and my whole genital area would be swollen and painful for a couple of days after. My right labia would swell to 3 times the normal size. Even the scar on the top of my leg (at the panty line) would swell up. All I could do was cry. Eventually we separated. I held a lot of guilt which I know I shouldn't have. In 2010 I was raped and went through the whole spectrum of tests for STD's. I was tested every 3 months for 18 months and it was at this time that I learned that I did not have herpes nor do I carry any antibodies for the disease. I was relieved, but extremely pissed at my now ex-GP. My problems with sex due to my bladder sling surgery still continue however and as do the problems with leaking, pain and discomfort from the surgery. I am terrified to have corrective surgery

I did see my gyn today, and was there for a while as she tried 2 different ones, this last one feels fine, but it is the one you leave in,with the stem..but i am hoping this one works,,,as taking the bigger one out,was painful!!
I think with this one,you can not have intercourse, unless she removes it..
I did not get a chance to ask the questions i wanted to ask,as she was very busy,,but i will next week when i see her again..

There are 5 types of POP, since you have no uterus, you likely have cystocele (bladder) or rectocele (rectum). Ask you dr which type you have and what grade of severity it is (1-4). Grades 1 and 2 often respond well to non-surgical treatments and exercises. If the pessary came right out, it probably wasn't the right size. Also there are many different types of pessaries, maybe a different one would work better for you.
