Chinese professor conducts PATM study

There finally seem to be some medical experts taking us and our problem seriously. Seven years ago the chinese professor of medicine Zhang Wei (deputy director of the Institute of Clinical Pharmacology of Xiangya Hospital, Central South University) was asked for help by a chinese man who claimed that people are allergic to him. The professor at first didn't answer back, because the necessary funding and technical equipment sadly wasn't available at that point. Luckily he did not forget and as of this year the professor decided to start a study and free(!) examination for the patients. From what I understand they are also checking for multiple body odor types (TMAU, bad breath, fecal body odor, foot odor ...).

The study started in August and first results are to be expected for this month.

What is being tested:

- TMAU urine sampling (GC-MS)
- Whole Genome Sequencing (though not for every patient due to the enormous costs)
- analysis of fecal flora
- blood sampling (kidney and liver function, hepatitis)
- identification of body odor and its severity

Although for most chinese PATMers there doesn't seem to be an abnormal body odor, it looks like they are speculating it's TMAU (at least in the forum thread I read via Google Translate).
Whatever the result will be, it's already a step in the right direction for us to raise awareness in the medical community. I think we will just have to wait patiently and hope they find something sticking out.

If you want to read more just google for "关于中南临床药理研究所采样的总结报道" and follow the first baidu link. You can even directly translate it to the language of your choice from the search results. The translation is a bit wonky, but it should suffice to understand the basics.

A big thank you to our member LittleCrab, who informed me about that study! If there are other chinese members that can help us out with more information, it would be really appreciated.
We all have to work closer together to solve this puzzle. I really wonder if the chinese scientists know about the latest MEBO studies. They probably missed it due to language barrier and lack of organization in our community.
