HELP, what is biofilm? I have been warned to take my washer back biofilm problems.

I have a whirlpool washer that I just found out was one of the recalls because the washer is not getting rid of or making biofilm. I had no idea at the time I took the washer apart to put a new rubber thing around the inside where the door closes and it was a three hour job but it saved money and I am ambitious. I also saw a little valve that was clogged up and needed cleaned so me with my perfectionist attitude, took the thing out putting my hands in it and something was burning me plus a smell that nearly knocked me over came out of it. I got it to the wash room wash basin and it was sticky gooey junk that I just about fainted from. Anyway ... I got it clean out and put it all back together, noticing that this stuff had also been on the old rubber ring of my front loading washing machine so I got rid of it all but not after I had been working in it for three hours or more even.  About four months later I was seen walking around a CVS drug store looking for a minute clinic and when they saw me they called EMS to take me to the hospital. I couldn't tell them my name, I couldn't tell them anything they had to search through my purse to find out who I was. Two days later I wake up and I am in a hospital being told I have sepsis or they said septicemia which I guess is the same thing. Now I have no idea what either thing is or was and had no idea I was even sick until I tried to get up and I couldn't move without want to throw up. They had me with IV's and medicine going through them and told me it took a while to find out what was wrong with me because of the way I acted when I came in. They thought menigitis or some sort of brain infection so a spinal was done, nothing, then a heart monitor and scan which they found the left ventrical of my heart valve swollen so then they thought I was a drug user. I am the farthest thing you could ever be from a drug user, so they did this thing where they put some sort of television thing down my throat to see what was going on with my heart. They fully expected to see green hairy fungus, which would be normal for a person who shoots drugs. I was so irritated that they had this idea but I went along with it. Well they didn't find any green hairy stuff and then the blood tests came back showing three different types of bacteria and fungus one of which they could not identify and two that were treated right away but it's a long process because they are now superbugs. People who do not finish their antibiotics given to them even after they feel better are going to kill us all because the antibiotics are to be used completely up or the germ, fungus, bacteria or whatever will become immune to this drug so it was trial and error. They have to find a drug that will kill the things in my blood, the last one was still there when I left and I was supposed to go for a follow up with my regular doctor. Before I could do that I started getting this horrible rash, or biting or itching that was unbearable and has been for two months now. The dermatologist states it's scabies, however, not one bug has been found, they are going on the way it was presenting on my body. At any rate, I think I am better, I am not sure but when I heard about biofilm, washer, recall etc and the problems I had just been through I wanted desperately to find out about this biofilm. I am sure most people don't put there hands in crap they have in their washers but leave it to me ... if I don't clean it ... I feel like it's going to not clean my clothes, well it's never been really cleaning our clothes because I guess the biofilm remains in the top of the machine too in small amounts. I do know biofilm is every place but can someone tell me what it does to you in a large amount such as a handfull that an idiot would grab and clean out of a washing machine. I am a girl so I have to admit this is not the stupidity of a guy, not that I would ever guess my washing machine was full of some sort of wierd crap.  Any help at all would be greatly appreciated since this is now taken almost a year of my life away.
