Axonal neuropathy

Have had neuropathy for 26 years. It became unbearable since 2002, have been on Oxycontin, neurontin and Lyrica. Lyrica is wonderful! But they had to up it to 225mg 2x daily. Now is affecting my ability to fuction, but relives all pain.
Was told today I have AXONAL neuropathy. What is this? They are sneding me to a neurologist. I need pain management. Please explain AXONAL to me, and what it 's all about thank you ...Delasurf
