We recently had colds in our family & I believe our ~6 month old Syrian hamster may have caught it. She never really made noises before, but she's been very chatty these past couple of weeks (even when by herself). I think I may have also heard her sneeze. (Kissing sound? Sneeze?). She also seems to sleep a lot more. She seems to still be eating / stashing food. This morning, I heard her chattering (like a kissing sound) & I went in to tempt her with a piece of banana. She came to me & ate the banana, but I think (?) I heard a little wheezing. I am afraid to take her to the vet because it is 30 degrees outside & it would also stress her out. However, I tried to coax her out of the cage because her breathing sounds bad, but she seemed to just chatter at me as if she wants to just go back to sleep. Is there any over the counter medication I can give her? Can hamsters get over colds on their own?
