Am I having a miscarriage?

I have PCOS and have not had a period for over a year. I am not on any type of birth control and have had unprotected sex within the last month. This morning, I begin having abdominal cramping that feels sort of like the pain that I have with cysts, and begin bleeding lightly. The bleeding is getting heavier as the day goes on. I took an over the counter pregnancy test and it came back negative. Could I be having a miscarriage? What do you think is going on? I have had no changes in my life for the last year.

What are the symptoms of a miscarriage?

Cramping and vaginal bleeding are the most common symptoms noticed with spontaneous abortion. The cramping and bleeding may be very mild, moderate, or severe. There is no particular pattern as to how long the symptoms will last.

Vaginal bleeding during early pregnancy is often referred to as a "threatened abortion." The term "threatened" abortion is used since miscarriage does not always follow vaginal bleeding in early pregnancy, even after repeated episodes or large amounts of bleeding. Studies have shown that 90-96% of pregnancies with fetal cardiac activity that result in vaginal bleeding at 7 to 11 weeks of gestation will result in an ongoing pregnancy.

How To Identify A Miscarriage

The only true way to confirm a miscarriage, is by seeing your doctor. But I would suspect one if early in your pregnancy you experience heavy bleeding with cramping. Not just spotting, as many women spot during pregnancy, but heavy menstrual like bleeding. Some women actually see a small mass in the blood. But the best way to confirm is to see your doctor.

SOMETIMES WHEN YOU TAKE A PREGNANCY TEST DURING A MENSTRUAL CYCLE YOU CAN HAVE WHAT IS CALLED A FALSE NEGATIVE OR POSITIVE THIS IS BECAUSE YOUR HORMONES ARE NOT WHERE THEY SHOULD BE SO THE TEST HAS AN INACCURATE READ. bASIC ADVISE SEE YOUR DOC BUT IN MY EXPERIENCE IT MAY NOT BE A CYST RUPTURE JUST THE PASSING OF A LARGE CLOT THIS CAUSES PAIN AND UNTIMELY BLEEDING. BUT SEE YOUR DOC ANYWAYS JUST TO MAKE SURE.

I agree. A cyst ruptured, maybe you started your period and a cyst ruptured. You don't know until you ask.

I suggest you to see your gyn. If you were pregnant, then the test would still be positive because HCG does not go down that fast. It sounds like maybe a cyst ruptured.
