Any advice on how to...?

Ok 1st of all let me say I didnt even know there was a PCOS forum so I am TRULY grateful!! Ok so I was diagnosed with PCOS in Feb. of 2009 after not having a period for 6 months. Since then my periods have been very irregular. At the present time I have been without a cycle since September of '09. I was/am prescribed birth control when I was intially diagnosed but I have yet to take it. I am not sexually active at this moment so I felt no need to take it. I am worried about more kids in the future. I am 21 years old and I have a 4yr old son. I never had problems with my cycle til last year. I gained 20 pounds in the absence of my cycle and I now weigh 181. So my questions are: Is birth control really neccesary? Could I develop uterine or ovarian cancer with the absence of a period for so long? I want to start trying to concieve in about the next 6 months. I know it's far off ut do u have any advice about concieving naturally w/o the help of fertility drugs? Any other advice would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks

My ob/gyn just told me that not having a period does increase your risk of cancer because it thickens the lining of your uterus..please do what your doctor tells you so that you do not get cancer! If it is the bc you have a problem with, ask the doc if there is anything else they could give you to bring it on!

Hey, Well if you aren't have regular cycles it could be next to impossible to try to conceive in a few months.  They give the birth control to get rid of the cysts and get your cycles regular.  I suggest getting on the BC.  While I was on it I had no cysts at all and my cycles became regular.  I had very heavy and long cycles before I got on BC and after they are normal and regular.  Then once they become regular and your cysts are gone, you can get off and start TTC :)
For me though, once I get off BC my cysts come back.  But at least my cycles are regular now.
But I have only just recently started TTC so I really have no advice as far as that goes.
Good luck!! :)
