Balancing Hormones and Losing Weight

I have had a hormonal imbalance for 2 years (producing too much androgen) and in that time I had gained quite a bit of weight. I am now taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen and have actually begun to FINALLY start losing weight. My weight loss is not much yet, but I was wondering  if taking these birth control pills is actually the reason for my weight loss? I know birth control pills are supposed to help with hormonal imbalances, so would taking them also enable me to finally start losing weight, despite the fact that so many women say birth control pills cause them to GAIN weight?

Thank you for your comment, Nolta. :) I hope I am as lucky as you are with the Ortho Tri-Cyclen continuing to help me lose weight. So far the extra weight I gained during the 2 years of my hormonal imbalance is slowing melting away, but I am definitely seeing a difference. With regulating my periods, protecting against pregnancy, helping me lose weight, and clearing up my acne and making my skin softer, Ortho Tri-Cyclen really seems like a miracle drug!

I am in the same boat as you are in. I have been just informed these past few months that I have PCOS. I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for over a decade (I took the pills for 3months straight. So I would menstruate once a quarter/season) and I was athletic during high school and college. I tried to keep my exercises up afterwards (mostly just walking) and my weight stayed healthy. But then when I got off the birth control pill because my husband and are ttc my weight went out of control. For me having extreme low progesterone and more of androgen is going to confuse the body (making it think it should be pregnant or menopause). The pill is to help the body chemically on what it “craves.” And if it works for you like it did for me it regulated your periods. In part yes it will help you lose weight or just control but it will not be the main source for losing weight. For people like us its one of the perks of birth control unlike for others. Good luck with the Ortho Tri-Cyclen I hope works for you in all female aspects.
