Hi,
There is a correlation between PCOS and development of endometrial cancer (in later life), in women who do not have a regular menstrual bleed. It is necessary to have periods at least four times in a year for PCOS women.
Oral contraceptives are not prescribed solely for cancer prevention, although this is an added benefit for women who take birth control pills for contraceptive purposes.
There are no clear guidelines for preventing endometrial cancer. However, doctors recommend a healthy diet and exercise to help control weight and blood pressure.
Overall, however, the risks of endometrial and ovarian cancer appear to be reduced with the use of oral contraceptives, - whereas the risks of breast, cervical, and liver cancer appear to be increased.
