Medroxyprogesterone effects? pregnancy?

Hi My name is Marianne and I am new to this forum. I went to the doctor on Tuesday to find out about my irregular periods. She is having me do some tests, but says that I more than likely have PCOS. She wants me to take Medroxyprogesterone (Provera) to get my periods regulated. I first wanted to know about side effects. Second I was reading that this particular drug is not recommended as it could cause some sort of pregnancy issue. Wasn't sure about if that was fact or myth. Any input is appreciated.

Hi ladies! I have PCOS as well, never have a period unless prescribed medroxyprogesterone, also don't ovulate. Recently went to a infertility specialist and he is putting me on medroxyprogesterone  followed by clomid and femara. That is supposed to jump start the ovaries.  Did the vaginal ultrasound that diagnosed me with PCOS, had an MI for my pituitary gland , and a lovey HSG test for the uterus and tubes had a mucous plug but that is about it for now. Keep you updated.

Hi, how are you?  I have had one doctor tell me that I did have PCOS and another tell me that I don't...I honestly think that I do.  What is funny though is the doctor who told me I don't is the one who gave me a never ending supply of the medroxyprogesterone.  I have to take it every month.  Are your periods just kind of irregular?  At this point I actually don't get one at all unless I take the provera "medroxyprogesterone".  I have scheduled another apt because I honestly don't think this doctor knows anything about PCOS...she started out by having me take 10mg a day for 10 days in a row...every single month on the 16th day of my cycle.  At that dose...the side effects were crazy.  It was like going through puberty again with mood swings and crying for no reason.  It always makes my breasts really tender.  I have since dropped to taking one 10mg pill a month...on about day 23 because it takes 5 days for my period to start after taking it.  With this dose I don't have such extreme side effects.  Oh and she did tell me it is dangerous if you are pregnant...so every month before I take, it I do take an HPT first just in case...even though I have never been pregnant.  Sorry I know this is long and kind of me ranting...but I have been on this med constantly since like sept 07 and it does work as far as my cycle but nothing else...I still don't ovulate and have other PCOS symptoms.
