Metformin Phobia

So, my doctor prescribed me Metformin ER 500mg and I am petrified of it. I have heard so many horror stories about it so I am looking for some positive feedback. I desperately need help because medically I am a mess and I am the heaviest that I have ever been.

Any positive success stories out there?

I took metformin a while ago. I'd take it in the morning and by afternoon I'd be sick and vomiting and having bad cramps. After a week of it happening every day, I stopped taking it. Went back to my doctor and he made me take it again but a smaller dose. Same thing. Went back again and got an even smaller dose. Again same thing. I have strictly told the doctor I refuse to take it now. Haven't taken it since. I took it for a week each time because my doctor said it could take a few days for my body to get used to it. Everyone is different though. Some people don't get any side effects. My sister and friend were fine taking it. I'd say give it a go and if you get any symptoms, talk to your doctor.

There is no reason to be frightened of Metformin. It will help you lose weight faster with a little healthy eating and exercise. There are also many PCOS symptoms that it can help with. You may get sick a little in the beginning but your body will adjust.

I've had a few doses now and thankfully other than a bit of diarrhea (less so now than Friday) it hasn't been bad!

I have been on Metformin for about 5 years on and off. The first time I took it I had stomach cramps and was sick in bed for the entire day, BUT I kept taking it. It is a good medication. Don't be scared. It can help you lose weight along with a healthy diet.

I can't really say yet...I literally took my first dose about 3 hours ago...but just wanted to let you know you aren't alone!  I can tell you that my mother started Metformin a little over a year ago for diabetes and she didn't have any horror stories to tell about it, said that she didn't get the GI side effects that her doctor warned her about.
