PCOS, Anxiety Disorder and Pregnancy

by Betty1979, Jan 28, 2008 11:43AM
Hi Everyone,

I would really love to get some feedback and information....

I am 29 years old and have been taking Effexor (75mg) for about 2 years now for Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and was diagnozed with PCOS a year ago when I stopped having my period.

My husband and I want to start a family in the next year or so.  My doctor said that I must start weaning myself off the effexor as it can be harmful to a baby.  Secondly, she said that I will probalby need fertility treatment in order to get pregnant because of the cysts.

I feel totally freaked out by all of this.  I can't imagine going off the Effexor, it changed my life for the better.  And having to go through all the fertility treatments on top of it all is really scary!

Please send your advice/comments.

Don't listen to anything about fertility treatment until you have tried getting pregnant unsuccesfully for six months.  I have three children and PCOS and all without any fertility issues.  My faith in God and my trust in His sovereignty is the only "treatment" I needed.  I also have a friend with PCOS who spent thousands on fertility and the only times she ever got pregnant are when she wasn't using fertility treatments.
Also I am sure there is an anti-anxiety drug you can take during pregnancy that is not harmful.

I, too, am a mom of 3 without fertility treatment.  I was 31 and heavy (about 172 - 5'4") when I conceived my first.  My PCOS was diagnosed at about 28, and I only took BCPs to make sure that I would have an occasional period.  Don't assume that you will have problems - after all, stress makes it harder to conceive, too!

I cant give you a professional advice I never tried to get  pregnant never been on fertility tratment neither the effexors & I have absloutly no idea what its side effects on pregnancy or the baby, all what i can say is that you should always consult more than  just one Doctor.
