PCOS & Clomid

Hi

i was diagnosed with PCOS last October which was devestating for me as all i wanted is to try for a baby. Me and my husband were so ready so to have a hurdle in the way was a nightmare for us. My doctor put me on Clomid which she said would make me ovulate. The first month i came on 1 day late, this was my first period in over 6 months. The next month after taking clomid i didnt come on till day 38 and my period only lasted 1.5 days. I knew this couldn't be right. I then took the next 5 tablets of clomid and nothig had happened. I asked my doctor last time i saw her what do i do if i dont come on and all she says was its unlikely it would happen. Well i haven't had a period yet, i am not pregant and can't tak the next lot of pills again until i do have a period. What can i do! i know you have to be patient when trying for a baby but i cant ever know when i am ovulating or if i am at all. i have tried those kits but because my cycle is so long inbetween it would cost me a fortune to use them every day. has anyone got any advice?

thanks

Hi i also have pcos and i have just finished my 3rd round of clomid 100mg the first 2 were 50mg like you i have really irregular cycles and sometimes months with nothing at all!! I did not O on the first cycle but did on the second i was waiting for my period to start the 3rd round when after 2 months i went back to my gp who upped the dose of clomid to 100mg and told me to just pick a day and start he said you will still ovulate without having a period!! It is now 2 weeks since i took it and nothing yet i also track with bbt which i find very good as my cycles are so irregular. I would ask your gp about taking the clomid anyway and maybe an increase in the dose also about metformin too!!

thanks eilky for your coment. i have gone back to my doc and they said for me to start taking Clomid again as i havent ovulated or had a period. she said as long as it has been 30 days it is fine to take. she also told me to now take 100mg instead of the 50mg i have previously taken. hopefully this time it will work!. i hope it works for you too x

Hi, you may not have ovulated this time, which means you will not get your period. I too, didn't get a period after one of my clomid cycles. You can take provera which gives you a period, or wait till you get a period on your own, You may need to increase your dosage of clomid too

i d not need to lose weight, i am the right weight for my height and my BMi is perfect too. My doc said it is quite strange for people whose weight is fine to suffer with PCOS. it ahs been 2 weeks [ast my period now and i still have nothing. it is so frustrating. i did do my own ovulation tests but was never sure with the result.

Have you tried to lose weight? Its a key factor.  The hcg diet is great!  A good site is www.metrodetroit.hcgproviders.com.  The prices are reasonable and you get a lot of support.  I hope this helps!

First and foremost you probably need to see a different specialist if you're not already. Did they do a progesterone check to see if you are ovulating? It should be done a week after you ovulate. 50mg may not be enough for you. On the natural side you can try vitex to bring on your cycle or get DCI from ****.com. It helped me with PCOS, I ovulated on my own and cycles were pretty regular. Just a thought.

I don't know, then. Try tracking your temperature to track your ovulation. Good luck!

no i am not, this is my third lot of clomid now. i dont have my next hospital appt until march 20 so dont know what to do until then, do i go see my normal GP or wait. It is just so frustrating all the waiting. I thought this clomid was the answer but now it seems it's not! , i am not overweight either, my doc checked me on all of that. x

Are you on any other medications for PCOS? I also didn't have a period in over 6 months and my doctor put me on metformin only to bring on a cycle and told me it would help if I losr weight. After I had a period on metformin is when he started me on clomid and told me to track my basal body temperature to find out when I ovulate.

Try tracking your basal body temp. Also, if you're overweight, it only helps to lose some weight.
